Government of South Australia - Department of Industry, Innovation and Science

    Areas of focus

Driving economic transformation towards a knowledge-based, resilient and greener economy for the future.

The Department for Industry, Innovation and Science is developing industry capability to ensure we have the workforce we need to harness the major opportunities coming our way, particularly in the defence and hydrogen industries. We’re also working across government to provide a roadmap for industries to become more sustainable and contribute to the state’s net zero emissions goal, and we’re developing a strategy to embrace sovereign manufacturing and re-industrialise the state in a low-carbon, clean industrial future.

Recognising that science, research and industry collaboration are fundamental drivers of innovation, we support research excellence, collaboration, translation and commercialisation. We are also harnessing critical technologies to drive innovation, solve problems and attract investment to the state.

We deliver skilled and business migration programs to ensure businesses have access to the skills they need, and we work with a range of stakeholders to ensure a progressive and high-performing higher and international education sector, including developing legislation to support the establishment of the new Adelaide University.

Through the Office for Small and Family Business, we are providing the state’s 150,000 small and family businesses with the tools to grow, innovate and take advantage of new market opportunities, and we’re creating a vibrant South Australia by supporting and growing our world-class creative industries.
